What is contextualized data? 

Contextualized data is raw data that is—put into context. The resulting contextualized data product becomes the foundational product that data analytics can be applied to in order to gain further business insights.  

These correlations make it easier to identify how the data can be used to take action and lead to improvement and efficiencies. This is due to the contextualized data becoming the foundation and basis for Services Modeling and Management. 

 

How does contextualized data benefit ITSM? 

The raw data is made more valuable with the contextualized targeting of a business’ outcome. When a company’s data is put into context, they reveal IT events that suggest ways to:

 

  • Improve efficiency  
  • Save costs  
  • Enhance performance 
  • Ease operations and maintenance 
  • Monitor security 
  • Gain valuable business insights 
  • Establish basis for future business use case(s) 


For example, Services Maps are the result of a contextualized data set for modeling an active product service. This information is incredibly useful for IT Service Management purposes.
 

 

What’s the future of contextualized data? 

New artificial intelligence (AI) tools are now appearing in the IT industry. From Large Language Data Models like the GPT series of GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 that’s used in ChatGPT to LLaMa, PaLM, BLOOM, Ernie 3.0 Titan, and Claude, these tools can be used to build previously unidentified business insights, specifically when applied to your contextualized data sets.  

Contextualized data is the new technological data art form. It can differentiate a company’s operational data platform and products. Ultimately, leveraging contextualized data will help businesses create a competitive edge over their competitors.
